Kashi Vishwanath Temple near Gangotri Dham in Uttarakhand has always been a center of attraction and a pilgrimage place for Devotees. This is the only temple in Uttarakhand where just by visiting the Temple, Devotees gain benefits similar to those associated with the Shivalinga of Kashi (Varanasi). The city of Uttarkashi is situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi (Ganges). This city was called the City of Vishwanath in ancient times. In Puranas, this place has been called Saumya Kashi. It is said that at this place Bhagirath had performed severe penance for Ganga to descend on the Earth. This temple was established by Parshuram Ji, an ardent devotee of Lord Shankar and an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
