Prayagraj is called Tirtharaj. Because it is an ancient city where the three most sacred rivers of the world meet. And this confluence point is called as Triveni Sangam. India's three sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati meet in the Triveni Sangam. Apart from this, Prayagraj is also the place where a drop of nectar fell during the churning of the ocean. Therefore, it is also a Maha Kumbh Kshetra. The Temple of Someshwar Mahadev is situated near Sangam Ghat. This Temple is one of the most famous temples dedicated to Shiva in Prayagraj. Participating in Rudrabhishek Puja here is considered to be very auspicious. It is believed that for the welfare of mankind, Shiva suffered a lot after drinking the poison that came out during the churning of the ocean. Then all the Gods anointed Shiva with the Amrit Jal of Triveni Sangam of Prayagraj. After this, Shiva got a lot of relief and he settled here in Prayagraj to rest in this temple. It is also believed that Chandra Dev did penance in Someshwar Mahadev Temple, along with Somnath Jyotirlinga to get back its lost shine. It is believed that worshiping and offering Chadhava to Shiva and Chandra Dev in this Temple is as fruitful as the Puja or Chadhava done in Somnath Jyotirlinga.
