Tarapith is well known for its Tantrik importance. Tarapith is also known as Tantrik Peeth. All the wishes of Devotees have been fulfilled by Maa Tara. Maa Tara holds the second position among the Ten Mahavidyas. Maa Tara blesses Devotees with all kinds of Opulence and Happiness. Tarapith was also the Siddhasana of Vasishtha Muni, the head Priest in Raja Dasharatha's Kingdom. It is said that Muni Vashistha was the first who worshipped Mother Tara. Like Kamakhya and Dakshineswar Kali, Tarapith is highly miraculous. Mother Tara gave her Divine Darshan to the great man Bamakhepa in the crematorium. This crematorium, located right in front of the temple, is one of the most important place for Devotees who worship Mother Goddess. According to Bamakhepa, Mother Tara appeared here wearing a tiger skin, a sword in one hand, a skeleton skull in another hand, a lotus flower in one hand and a weapon in another. She was wearing anklets on her feet and her hair was open. Maa Tara had her tongue out and the atmosphere was filled with Brightness and Fragrance.
