The country's most revered Shani temple is located in Shingnapur, Maharashtra. The idol of Shani Dev here is Swayambhu and the Temple is believed to be Jagrut Devasthan. Once there was a flood in Shingnapur village, when this Shani Dev's idol got washed away in that flood and got stuck in the tree. When a shepherd tried to move the idol, the idol started bleeding. Seeing this, he got scared and immediately ran away in fear. But, that night Shani Dev appeared in his dream and told him that he has discovered his idol and this idol must be worshipped daily in order to keep the village protected. Then the villagers performed Pran Pratistha of this Shila. Since then, Shingnapur is called Shani Shingnapur paying reverence to the name of Shani Dev.
