      About Vishnupad Temple, Gaya
      Heading pattern

Vishnupad Mandir is the place where the footprint of Shri Vishnu himself is present. This was formed when once a demon named Gayasur performed severe penance and asked for a boon that whoever paid visit to him will get salvation. Since salvation is attained by being righteous in life, people started attaining it easily. To prevent immoral people from attaining salvation, Vishnu asked Gayasur to go below the Earth and Shri Vishnu did so by placing his right foot on the head of the demon. And then after Gayasur was pushed below the earth, Vishnu's footprint remained on the surface of Earth, which we see even today. The footprint has nine different symbols including Shankham, Chakram and Gadham. These are believed to be the weapons of the Shri Vishnu. Now pushed into the earth, Gayasur started pleading for food. Shri Vishnu gave him a boon that every day some Devotee will give him food. Whoever does this, his soul or soul of his relatives will attain salvation. Since then, it is also believed that any devotee who participates in the worship of Vishnu Ji or Offer Chadhava to Shri Vishnu in Vishnupad temple, his Pitra Dosh is removed and the soul of the ancestors attains Peace. People from different parts of India pray or offer here for the welfare of their departed souls. It is also believed that Shri Ram worshipped Vishnu Ji here for the peace of the soul of his father Raja Dasharath.
