Srisailam is the only holy place in India where Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati is present in the form of Jyotirlinga and Shaktipeeth. Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati resides here as Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga and Maa Bhramarambika Shaktipeeth. It is said that Shri Ram had also prayed to Shiva-Shakti at this place during his search for Mata Sita. Srisailam Tirth represents the ardent love of Mata Parvati and Lord Shiva. On request of Maa Parvati, Mahadev Shiva resides here. At this place, Lord Shiva appeared in the divine form of Jyoti (light) to pacify angry Mata Parvati. Maa Parvati went on the quest to convince her son Kartikeya, but as he was not convinced, Maa Parvati got angry and returned here. Hence, to convince her beloved love, Lord Shiva came here from Kailash and resided here with Maa Parvati. According to yet another story, a part of Mata Sati’s head fell here. And from then onwards, this place is known as the Shaktipeeth. Maa Durga took the form of Bhramari at this place to kill a demon and after killing the demon, settled here for the protection of her Devotees. This place is highly divine and blessed with Union of Shiva and Shakti.
