Shri Rameswaram Tirth Kshetra is famous for the Jyotirlinga Rameshwaram of Shivji. Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga was established by Shri Rama. It is believed that before the establishment of Rameswaram Jyotirlinga, Shivji had given Darshan of his Jyotirlinga form to Shri Ram at this place. It is believed that this pilgrimage center is very sacred and auspicious as every part of this holy city holds Shivji and Shri Rama’s divinity. In order to attain victory, attain peace of mind and accomplish his goal, Shri Rama made a Shivalinga from sand here and named it as Rameswaram before going into war with Ravana. After the victory over Ravana, Shri Rama again worshiped Rameswaram Jyotirlinga to get rid of the sins committed during the war. It is believed that the big stones were brought from Sri Lanka to make Jyotirlinga a grand Temple of Shivji. The world's largest corridor is also a part of this temple.
