This Rahu temple of Paithani village is considered to be the most famous and proven temple in the whole country, where Rahu is worshipped. According to 'Skanda Purana', Rahu performed severe penance of Lord Shiva at the confluence of Rath Vahini and Navalika river in the foothills of Rashtrakuta Mountain. After this, the influence of Rahu's power started being felt in this area. Also, due to Rahu's gotra "Paiteenasa", this village was later named Paithani. It is said that when Adi Shankaracharya came to this place, he realized the mericulous power of Rahu in this area of Paithani village. Then he got this temple built here. In this temple, there is a ritual of worshipping Lord Shiva along with Rahu. People offer moong khichdi here to please Rahu and to remove his dosha.
