This place is considered as sacred as Gaya for the Shraddha Karma of Ancestors. It is said that when Gayasur took the idol of Shri Vishnu, the main chest part of that idol fell at this place and the feet in Gaya. Since then, performing Pitra Karma at Narayani Shila in Haridwar is considered auspicious just like Gaya. It is written in Puranas that Pitra Puja in Gaya, Kashi, Haridwar, Devprayag and Badrinath 
will help in Salvation of Ancestors. As the feet of Shri Vishnu is present in Gaya with head in Badrinath and the main body in Narayani Shila, Haridwar. Performing Pitra Karma here not only gives salvation to ancestors, but also brings Lakshmi, because there is the heart of Narayan is at this place and Lakshmi resides in the heart of Narayan. A half stone idol of Shri Vishnu is Prana Pratishthit inside the Temple. All the wishes comes true by worshipping here.
